Released a statement explaining its use of Indulin AA 86 and how it gets city water for use in its mixing tank. The statement said the company is not directly connected to the city’s water supply line and that the company buys water from Valero Marketing and Supply Co., its landlord at the oil company’s asphalt terminal, which is delivered through a separate supply line at the terminal. It also said a soap solution, which it described as 98 percent water and two percent Indulin AA 86 and hydrochloric acid, backflowed into the separate supply line within the asphalt terminal, where it is used in Ergon’s asphalt operations. The statement said when the backflow occurred within the asphalt terminal complex, the solution would have been diluted with the water in the terminal’s water line. The statement then reiterated that the city, the TCEQ and the EPA determined the backflow could not have entered zone 1,where residents are able to use water for any purpose, and that it is unlikely the backflow could have entered Zone 2, where residents can use the water for bathing and cleaning but not for drinking or cooking. The statement also reiterates Ergon’s commitment to cooperating with the city, TCEQ and EPA officials to help bring an end to the water restrictions.Earlier Saturday, the city said it is aware of 4 reports within zone 3 of skin and intestinal issues consistent with Indulin exposure. The Caller Times also has confirmed that the TCEQ’s initial report shows a backflow issue at the mixing tank Dec. 7.
